A word of warning to those looking at foreclosures, the people who have left the home may be a bit deranged. That seems to be the situation in Clarke County, Georgia where foreclosure specialists found a grenade in the middle of the foreclosed and empty house.
The nearby University of Georgia Bomb Squad recovered the bomb and exploded it in the back yard.
Here is my takeaway from the incident, if you are entering a newly foreclosed upon house and there is something wrong, like a grenade on the floor, get the hell out of there quickly. Don’t pick up the grenade to see if it was real.
We are fortunate that we are able to joke about this incident, it easily could be that we would be talking about the 2 real estate professionals who were blown up near the University of Georgia in a foreclosure on the national news.

Foreclosure specialists Mike Seger and Jackie Quig found the grenade at about 11:30 a.m. Thursday while inspecting the home, located on Towne Square Lane off Newton Bridge Road.
“It was lying right in the middle of the floor, so I picked it up to see if it was plastic,” Seger told the paper.
He then noticed the grenade’s pin was in place and called 911.
Athens-Clarke police and firefighters, along with technicians from the UGA Police Bomb Disposal Unit, responded to the call.
After taping off the cul-de-sac, officers informed neighbors of the situation and asked them to either stay inside or leave. ajc.com.

Ok, now I have heard just about everything. We do several hundred REO's a year and this may be the best yet. Goes to show that Realtor AND consumer safety when showing property is paramount.
