The Top 10 Most Dangerous Cities in America For 2011

  • by Tom Royce
  • February 21, 2011

If you are looking for a place to leave your house unlocked you are probably better off not moving to one of these top 10 most dangerous cities in America is 2011.

Now one thing to remember is that the FBI crime data comes from the actual cities and not the surrounding geographic area. For example, Atlanta comes in at number two on the list. There are less than 500,000 people living in the actual city of Atlanta while there are nearly 5,000,000 in the metro area. So these stats can be a bit deceiving.

The Top 10 Most Dangerous Cities in America For 2011

1. St. Louis – 530
2. Atlanta – 484
3. Birmingham (tie) – 380
3. Orlando (tie) – 380
5. Detroit – 369
6. Memphis – 361
7. Miami – 346
8. Baltimore – 339
9. Kansas City – 337
10. Minneapolis (tie) – 331
10. Cleveland (tie) – 331

la isn’t even close to becoming as dangerous as st. louis, why don’t you go there. i lived 20 minutes outside of east st. louis and it was scary shit, cops will arrest you if you enter certain parts of east st. louis because it is too dangerous to enter. st. louis is one of the top ten deadliest cities in the world. la is like 100 in america. statistics prove this shit. east st. louis is like driving from manhatten to mogadishu, somalia. it’s a third world city. i know from experience. ask anyone who lives in st. louis it’s fear daily

Miami is such a large city and certainly has its share of crime but I don't think its one of the most dangerous cities. These stats probably don't take into account the other sub markets such as Miami Beach, Coral Gables, Sunny Isles, Aventura and other more affluent communites which if accounted for probably would push Miami off the list.

I've lived there. People walk down the street with AK-47's in their hand. (True story: the guy walked by the house, gun in one hand, waved with the other) Try heading to the west side, somewhere by Goodfellow and Theodosia, for a day or two. You will change your mind.

Minneapolis is not that bad. I have lived in Minnesota all my life. I live in the suburbs right outside the cities, and often go there to visit family. I also lived there for a good amount of time. Most areas aren't too bad. The only really bad part of Minneapolis is north east. In that area I wouldn't go outside at night

Most people don't visit Orlando. Disney World is in Lake Buena Vista, FL and SeaWorld is in Williamsburg, FL.

As for Miami making the list. Miami itself is plagued with gangs and crime. The luxurious lifestyles you see on TV mostly take place in Miami Beach… a separate city right next to it.

All cities have crime. Period. It’s fact of life. There is very little you can do to avoid it. I Just try to hang out with the right people.

A city’s high crime rate would not make me avoid visiting the place.

(continued) Folks Jefferson City is like, what, oh…126 miles west of Downtown St. Louis. Half way across the State? Oh yeah, Jeff City is going to know how to Police St. Louis….NOT. Guess this is something that could use a good fixing, huh? Maybe we could under report our crime rate too…or…here's a thought… maybe it's being over reported to maintain a bureaucracy in our Capitol. Just saying.
All comments both for or against my thoughts on this matter are welcome. Have a safe day/night cause God knows if you live in St. Louis…it just might be your last. Whatever.

I guess part 1 of this message was declined due to some possibly inflammatory expletives…I'll tone it down…it went something like this:
"Now my take- This is <JUNK>! Having personally traveled around the U.S. and been to alot of cities… There are FAR worse places to be other than St. Louis, Mo and I do mean FAR WORSE.
This listing is pure <JUNK>! St. Louis is AWESOME.
A word (personal of course, but just the same) about the statistics used by the company that produced this article. The St. Louis Police force at least does an effort to chronicle and tabulate our crime. Some cities under report theirs. It is interesting to me listening on the radio and hearing an advertisement that the leadership of our City's Police Force dates back to the Pre-Civil War Era…where as the City of St. Louis does not have control of our own Police force. The State's Capital, Jefferson City, does." Then continued above. I'm PROUD to be a citizen of St. Louis and I can not allow some pencil pushing mathematicians to go unchecked. Thanks.
