University of Minnesota Clears Wrestling Coach of Real Estate Recruiting Violations

by Tom Royce on May 24, 2010

Last year we wrote about the University of Minnesota wrestling coach who was being investigated over the purported use of real estate for recruiting athletes  to the program.

Well, after a 5 month investigation by the  University Coach Robinson has been cleared. The school determined that his real estate transactions were not used with current athletes but instead were with graduates and those involved with the program.

The university found no indication that Robinson provided “property transaction assistance” to individuals because were former wrestlers. Instead, it found the long-time Gophers coach has a history of helping staff members with property, whether they had been on the team or not.

According to the Minnesota Daily, the university’s investigation consisted of interviews with former and current wrestling coaches and administrative staff, all current wrestlers, former wrestlers mentioned in the paper’s original article, and property transaction documents from the cases reported in the article.
