The Robin Hood Pastor, Rev. Roy E. Smith, was charged with falsifying paperwork with 5 different banks to found a church in Greensburg, Pennsylvania. What is even more amazing is that he is still in the pulpit and the church board is still supporting him. Wow…
“Oh yes, that’s correct. The minute I was made aware of this, I made the board aware of what was happening, and they support me,” Smith, 32, said Tuesday.
“I had a lapse in judgment and I’m attempting to rectify it,” said Smith, who declined further comment.
According to documents made public this week in federal court in Pittsburgh, Smith is accused of one count of bank fraud last year for falsifying paperwork at five area banks to obtain more than $824,000 in loans.Court records said Smith, who used to operate the now-closed Bread of Life Church of Dominion along Fifth Avenue in McKeesport, Allegheny County, opened the nonprofit Church of Dominion Inc. in Greensburg in February 2005. via PittsburghLIVE.com.

Sadly, Church Fraud is a very real concern, with potential risk from the outside as well as within. There are simple steps to increase the security of a church’s finances but it is difficult to know where to start. I recently found out about a Christian Accounting firm that offers online tools and support for churches. They have some excellent resources as well as an online questionnaire that will determine whether a church is at risk. Their service is called Weeds in the Garden.
