Brooklyn’s Flatbush Avenue Is Booming

by Tom Royce on June 25, 2007

Flatbush_avenueConsider this the spillover effect from Manhattan’s explosion in property prices, but tame and dowdy Flatbush Avenue in Brooklyn is experiencing a building boom of epic proportions. 18 construction projects are occurring on this stories street with a combined value of 3 billion dollars. And that is not even including the Atlantic Yards project nearby.

Flatbush Avenue, who woulda thunk it.

From the Manhatttan Bridge to the just south of Third Avenue — Flatbush Avenue is expected to get 4,400 new residential units, 645,000 square feet of new shopping and 190,000 square feet of office space.

The biggest project is a $750 million plan to renovate the Albee Square Mall into 900 apartments and $600,000 square feet of stores and offices. via 1010 WINS
