Top 10 Most Dangerous Cities in America

by Tom Royce on August 2, 2006

See the 2008 Most Dangerous City list here.

CriminalCrime and Education are two of the most important factors when deciding where to purchase your new home. We live outside of Atlanta in a neighborhood where there is very little crime, but we understand that in the proper city of Atlanta, that leaving your car unlocked and the keys in it is a recipe for disaster.

So look at this list as if you were to live in the heart of the city when making your decision. The suburbs can be much different and crime may be much lower.

1 – Camden, NJ
2 – Detroit, MI
3 – St. Louis, MO
4 – Flint, MI
5 – Richmond, VA
6 – Baltimore, MD
7 – Atlanta, GA
8 – New Orleans, LA
9 – Gary, IN
10 – Birmingham, AL

North Charleston SC certainly deserves to be on the top 10 list each year, as we are for 2008 and have been for years. Homicide, rape, and other violent crime are part of the culture here. There have been innumerable special programs and financial efforts to “clean up” N Charleston, but the problem is more cultural than financial.
