A 155 Million Dollar Spec Home

  • by Tom Royce
  • January 26, 2007

155_Million_Dollar_HouseThe ultra luxury housing market is getting a new addition as Tim Blixseth, a timber and real estate mogul, is building a spec home for the asking price of 155 million dollars. Thats right, a 155 million dollar home being built on spec.

They say you need to spend money to make money, and for a man who is 322nd on the Forbes 400 Richest People in the World list, you know he has learned how to make money.

But if it sells for its list price, you are owning a property in the middle of Montana for 155 million dollars that is the most expensive home in the world. The home will have 10 bedrooms, 160 acres, and a private gondola to take you to the private ski slops in Yellowstone Club.

The 53,000-square-foot stone and wood mansion will be built at the Yellowstone Club, a members-only, residential ski and golf resort near Bozeman, Montana developed by Blixseth.

That tops the $139 million asking price for Updown Court in Windlesham, England, which was listed No. 1 in the Forbes.com list of the world’s most expensive homes in 2006.

It also exceeds the $125 million that U.S. media mogul and reality TV star Donald Trump is asking for the renovated estate he owns in Palm Beach, Florida. via  Reuters.com.

If anyone out there knows the total value of real estate sold in Montana last year, can you post it in the comments? I would love to see what this would do to the statewide average selling price of a home in the state.

I only have information for homes and volume for Billings and about a 50 mile radius. In 2006 3213 homes were sold for $547,672,581, with an avg. price of $170,455. In know around Bozeman and Missoula the price of homes are a lot higher.
