Homes America Pitch to Buyers in North Carolina – A Can Of Beans With Every New Home Purchase

by Tom Royce on September 19, 2006

BeansIn some parts of the country cruises and flat panel televisions are given away to induce buyers to sign on the dotted line to buy a new home. But in Haywood County, North Carolina a can of beans is the inducement to buy your next home by the local Homes America affiliate.

And we are not talking pintos here, if you want they will go for the green beans or the lima beans too. God Bless America.

“It gets people to call,” salesman Rich Thacker said about the week-old sales campaign.
Thacker estimated that Homes America has gotten an extra half-dozen calls a day since placing classified ads promising the can of beans with the purchase of a new home. The ads are running in newspapers across Western North Carolina.
Gail Brown, development director with Phoenix Housing Group, the parent company of Homes America, said the campaign was the brainchild of Larry Taylor, a Waynesville manager.
Brown said the salespeople are paying for the beans and aren’t kicking the cost back to customers.
“This is truth in advertising,” she said. “They are truly free.” via the CITIZEN-TIMES.com

That seems like a kind of odd gift to get with a home.
