The Top 10 Most Dangerous Cities in America For 2011

If you are looking for a place to leave your house unlocked you are probably better off not moving to one of these top 10 most dangerous cities in America is 2011.

Now one thing to remember is that the FBI crime data comes from the actual cities and not the surrounding geographic area. For example, Atlanta comes in at number two on the list. There are less than 500,000 people living in the actual city of Atlanta while there are nearly 5,000,000 in the metro area. So these stats can be a bit deceiving.

The Top 10 Most Dangerous Cities in America For 2011

  1. la isn’t even close to becoming as dangerous as st. louis, why don’t you go there. i lived 20 minutes outside of east st. louis and it was scary shit, cops will arrest you if you enter certain parts of east st. louis because it is too dangerous to enter. st. louis is one of the top ten deadliest cities in the world. la is like 100 in america. statistics prove this shit. east st. louis is like driving from manhatten to mogadishu, somalia. it’s a third world city. i know from experience. ask anyone who lives in st. louis it’s fear daily

  2. Miami is such a large city and certainly has its share of crime but I don't think its one of the most dangerous cities. These stats probably don't take into account the other sub markets such as Miami Beach, Coral Gables, Sunny Isles, Aventura and other more affluent communites which if accounted for probably would push Miami off the list.

  3. I can't believe Orlando is that dangerous… Is there another side to the city that tourists never see?

  4. Orlando #3? That's surprising… I guess I only see the tourist side of things

  5. Oh my Atlanta is on number 2! The markets are constantly fluctuating and you need to be able to quickly adapt in order to stay on the cutting edge of creating real estate profi

    • Oh no. my son just moved to Atlanta. He is renting now but looking to buy a house in the suburbs ( I will encourage the move to the suburbs strongly now) . Atlanta is such a beautiful city. Who knew???

    • I can't believe that los angeles isn't in the top 10….this must just be for the east coast

  6. Orlando???…never experienced anything bad before….

    • Thats cause the torist area is not actually apart of orland the city of orlando is actually extremely bad, and there are many part people cant go into enlese you know someone :( sad but true

  7. St. Louis… Is not that bad… I've been there many times. I never felt unsafe.

    • u have been there but u dont live there….watch fox 2 news it will explain it all

    • Are you visually impaired by chance? St. Louis is insanely dangerous, if you live there make sure to get your conceal and carry license… I lived there for years and just got out. So happy to be elsewhere.

    • I've lived there. People walk down the street with AK-47's in their hand. (True story: the guy walked by the house, gun in one hand, waved with the other) Try heading to the west side, somewhere by Goodfellow and Theodosia, for a day or two. You will change your mind.

    • because you were in the rich populated down town area. try leaving there like i did gunshots go off daily dumbass, and if you go across the river to east st. louis you entering one of the top ten most dangerous cities in the world. your obviously just a tourist who maybe visits the arch or a ball game, but try walking the streets at night, especially when your white.

  8. Interesting that Orlando is more dangerous than Miami, I always thought it would be the other way around.

  9. “10. Minneapolis”

the aps jumped 38 spots in 1 year.

  10. What defines 'dangerous'

I would say Washington is probably the most 'dangerous' of all American cities because it spawned the housing bubble!

  11. Why can't we all just get along? why do they have to kill or steal and all that stuff? How would they feel if we do that to them? We're here minding our own business and helping those in need but still we are victimized. Can't they just look for a job?

  12. minneapolis is called Murderapolis. gangs everywhere…bloods, crips, asian gangs, somalian gangs, hispanic gangs, etc

    • Minneapolis is not that bad. I have lived in Minnesota all my life. I live in the suburbs right outside the cities, and often go there to visit family. I also lived there for a good amount of time. Most areas aren't too bad. The only really bad part of Minneapolis is north east. In that area I wouldn't go outside at night

  13. IM FROM ATLANTA AND IT ALL JUST DEPENDS ON WHAT PART YOU GO TO.

    • yea i live about 10 miles north of birmingham and ive been to atlanta quite a few times and some parts were fine then others were bad which its the same with birmingham.

  14. I JUST MOVED TO ATLANTA FROM NEW ORLEANS AND I REALIZE IT WAS NO POINT IN MOVING BECAUSE CRIME IS EVERY WHERE IN THE SOUTHERN CITIES.

  15. Surprised LA didn't make the list

    • LA is nothing all u do is make money a see lakers i from and live in memphis the resone where high last year and going be this year cause bloods and crips live in the same hood. also walk down whitehaven south, east north and then ask me whos number 1 this crime rate list is old and not true we have 496 homicide

      • la is nothing ?? lmfao nigga u one retarded ass nigga everyone knows that LA IS THE MOST DANGEROUS CITY IN AMERICA.. !!!ANYWHERE WHERE THERE IS ABOUT 85,000 GANG MEMBERS AND A RACE WAR HAS TO BE DA MOST DANGEROUS.. BUT LA IS SO BIG THAT THE WAY THEY RATE DA MOST DANGEROUS CITY IS BY SQUARE MILEAGE.. BUT LOS ANGELES IS DEFINATELY DA CRAZYEST AND THE MOST DANGEROUS CITY IN AMERICA.. IF U BRIONG ANY OTHER GANG TO LOS ANGELES IT WILL JUST BE DISTROYED..LOL LA IS THE GANG CAPITAL OF THE WORLD AND HAVE THE DEADLYEST GANGMEMBER IN AMERICA..

        • I totally agree. Compton, Long Beach, Oakland, Piru street, 204th street, and 206th street, is da most dangerous cities in america because that's where crips, bloods, and latinos gangs begin at.

  16. Most people don't visit Orlando. Disney World is in Lake Buena Vista, FL and SeaWorld is in Williamsburg, FL.

As for Miami making the list. Miami itself is plagued with gangs and crime. The luxurious lifestyles you see on TV mostly take place in Miami Beach… a separate city right next to it.

    • All cities have crime. Period. It’s fact of life. There is very little you can do to avoid it. I Just try to hang out with the right people.

A city’s high crime rate would not make me avoid visiting the place.

  17. I agree with Nick. Wherever you go, crime is always there. We just have to learn to live with it and avoid it as much as possible.

  18. Stl isn't that bad. At least the main parts. The hood is horrible, but that only makes up a small portion of the city

  19. birmingham dam shame we that high on the list just killing each other

  20. (continued) Folks Jefferson City is like, what, oh…126 miles west of Downtown St. Louis. Half way across the State? Oh yeah, Jeff City is going to know how to Police St. Louis….NOT. Guess this is something that could use a good fixing, huh? Maybe we could under report our crime rate too…or…here's a thought… maybe it's being over reported to maintain a bureaucracy in our Capitol. Just saying.
All comments both for or against my thoughts on this matter are welcome. Have a safe day/night cause God knows if you live in St. Louis…it just might be your last. Whatever.

    • I guess part 1 of this message was declined due to some possibly inflammatory expletives…I'll tone it down…it went something like this:
"Now my take- This is <JUNK>! Having personally traveled around the U.S. and been to alot of cities… There are FAR worse places to be other than St. Louis, Mo and I do mean FAR WORSE.
This listing is pure <JUNK>! St. Louis is AWESOME.
A word (personal of course, but just the same) about the statistics used by the company that produced this article. The St. Louis Police force at least does an effort to chronicle and tabulate our crime. Some cities under report theirs. It is interesting to me listening on the radio and hearing an advertisement that the leadership of our City's Police Force dates back to the Pre-Civil War Era…where as the City of St. Louis does not have control of our own Police force. The State's Capital, Jefferson City, does." Then continued above. I'm PROUD to be a citizen of St. Louis and I can not allow some pencil pushing mathematicians to go unchecked. Thanks.

  21. @Kasey – you may have lived in MN for ur whole life, but i lived in minneapolis for merely a few months and i realized what it was all about. it's one thing if you live with family and have a solid support system in case something goes wrong, but murderapolis is definitely a place to not take for granted. walk down ANY street in the Phillips neighborhood on the southside or ANY street on the entire northside and ull see whats up

  22. come to think of it, im surpised Washington DC isn't on the list

  23. @anyone who asks why "they" have to go out and make their city dangerous to the point of us talking about it on this website…

poverty turns good people into people with bad habits…why go look for a job when you can make more money daily on the streets?

  24. Memphis this low last year we was number 2 i am from memphis a live here its no safe parts and this is from feburabary and last i check we we up to 4 or 3 but before over wif i bet where 1 or2 because st louis is not even hood

  25. Oakland,CA isn’t on the list anymore… That’s great!

  26. what happened too camden , Nj

    • camden is a town not city lol

    • EASTSIDEBABYOJK

Camden is a city what r u talking about im from there dont wrry camden is about to be back on top after this summer they laid off damn near half of the police force it is about to go dwn MY HOOD GO HARD IN THE PAINT

  27. The list of these cities is really surprising! And to mention that big cities like LA and New York are not mentioned.

  28. Minneapolis is bad because they have so many races and gangs, most people are on welfare over there are getting money from the Government robbing people shooting people over senseless things… i lived in north minneapolis for nearly a year and a half and i had never heard so many gun shots in my life not even in movies and in my neighborhood in general was robbed over 15 times in one year an on my block there was 2 murders and blocks away within a week there was 3 more

  29. cleveland has more fags then crime change. Birmingham gon forever be bad theres to many projects.

  30. people that live in the Orlando level call it The City of Death.. yes they hide it from the tourist

  31. Cleveland is NOT DANGROUS! It is sooo safe..

  32. How is Detroit that dangerous of from da D nd it aint that bad

  33. Where the fuck is camden NJ

  34. Where's camden NJ is maa ghetto here

  35. West side chicago west lake street in chicago was named most dangerous street in the USA

  36. SHIT I STAY IN STL, AND WHOEVER THINKS ITS SAFE, OBVIOUSLY DIDNT ACTUALLY VISIT THE REAL ST.LOUIS, PROLLY WAS JUST AT THE ZOO OR SIX FLAGS ST.LOUIS WHICH IS IN EUREKA NOT EVEN ST.LOUIS LOL………..PPL JUST TALKIN….AND WHY IS IT COOL TO BE BAD ANYWAY, IT IS WAHT IT IS

  37. nah baltimore is the top maryland is murderland

  38. Miami is terrible, most overrated city in the world in my opinion

  39. All of these cities have a high percentage of blacks in them.

  40. Shouldn't New Haven Connecticut be on this list? I'm from Rhode Island and all i hear about is how the Terror Dome section and the Vill' section of the city are beefin' and its been a war zone more than usuall, it was on the news how its been Shouldn't so violent that wearing bullet proove vests will no longer be against the law until the end of October..

  41. i am from detroit. off course detroit has a bad image as the city but its not true. been living here for 9 years wherever i go i feell unsafe but detroit is my safest home. surprising in one year dropped to number 5

  42. I live in Baltimore – as long as you know where you're going and have common sense, it's not that dangerous. A lot of the crime is centered around gangs and drugs; don't get mixed up in it and you'll be fine – as I'm sure it is in most 'dangerous' cities.

  43. Flint should be at the top with Detroit
    Mutha Facku
    MMFWCL

  44. so this list is not for murders in the city limits.. it includes all surrounding counties that explains alot y certain cities aint on the list

  45. i live in st. louis we a gang called the knock out gang…ive been a victim of this gang…their whole purpose is to go around beating the piss out of people to collect points….STL is not a joke for all you fronting jock ass niggas

  46. Washington is not there in the list and cannot be as there are many other tight contestants in the list. St Louis is no doubt top of the line.

  47. My folks live in Kansas City. It's not surprising to see this on the list. Im moving to Orlando but Im from Houston. Violence is no stranger in the city Im from. Crime is everywhere.

  48. man fukk all yall chicago is the realiest sorry to say ….

  49. It depends on what part of Atlanta you live in…

  50. Why is ATL in bold?
