Spent this morning fighting through traffic trying to get my son to camp and all I heard was that the city of Atlanta moved to 3rd worst traffic city in the United States. Now I am spoiled by working at home on a regular basis, but the report still made me think of all the suffering people do on a daily basis to take care of their loved ones.
Here are some stats I found from the Texas Transportation Institute.
Other highlights from the research illustrate the effects of the nation’s traffic problems.
- The overall cost (based on wasted fuel and lost productivity) reached $87.2 billion in 2007 – more than $750 for every U.S. traveler.
- The total amount of wasted fuel topped 2.8 billion gallons – three weeks’ worth of gas for every traveler.
- The amount of wasted time totaled 4.2 billion hours – nearly one full work week (or vacation week) for every traveler.

Surprised Las Vegas isn't on the list, maybe top 10-20. Gets pretty bad with all this road construction going on ….. but does help traffic flow quite a bit once finished.

Forgot Albuquerque. Virtually no bridges to cross Rio Grande River and no bypass around city. Almost all interstate trucking must pass through downtown of city. Rush hour traffic as bad as cities 5 – 10 times bigger!

The cities of the USA are one of the best road systems in the world. Their highways are wide and functional.
